Did you know that over 5 billion phones will become e-waste this year? It is common for items such as cellphones, toasters, electronic toothbrushes, cameras and irons to be disposed of incorrectly due to their small size. They comprise a significant share of the 8% of e-waste thrown away in waste bins and subsequently disposed of in landfills or incinerated. As a result, their valuable raw materials cannot be extracted and are lost. Gets you thinking, doesn’t it?
14 October marks International E Waste Day which was founded by the WEEE (Waste electrical and electronic equipment) Forum to spread the word on the importance of proper disposal and recycling of WEEE. In collaboration with Puma, Go Green Electronic Recycling hosted an E-Waste drive for Puma staff. As part of International E-Waste Day 2022, employees were given the opportunity to dispose of their household electronic waste under the slogan “Recycle it all, no matter how small”.
Our hope is that the awareness created on this day will last throughout the entire year and beyond.
